Surrogacy: Because every family deserves the opportunity to grow
At our agency, we have the privilege of witnessing one of the most powerful transformations life can offer: the moment when hopeful parents finally start a family. For many of them, surrogacy isn’t just a medical option. It’s their only path to parenthood.
We’ve heard their stories. Years of infertility treatments. Countless tears. The heartbreaking pain of being told that carrying a child isn’t possible. And then, a glimmer of hope: surrogacy. Thanks to the courage and generosity of the women who choose to become surrogates, these parents have the opportunity to fulfill their dream of holding their child in their arms for the first time.
The role of the surrogate mother is extraordinary. These women aren’t just participating in a medical process; they are partners on a life-changing journey. With strength, empathy, and a deep sense of compassion, they choose to carry a child for another person, conscious of the love and happiness they make possible. Surrogates are at the heart of this process, and their contribution deserves the utmost respect and recognition.
For many families around the world, Colombia has become a beacon on this path. This country offers not only medical excellence and advanced reproductive technology, but also a culture that values family, resilience, and compassion. Here, expectant parents find a safe, ethical, and supportive environment where surrogacy is respected as a way to build families. Colombia is increasingly recognized as a destination of hope, where dreams of parenthood are nurtured and protected.
Unfortunately, in many places, surrogacy is under threat. Around the world, voices are raised by political parties, institutions, and groups calling for its prohibition or severe restrictions. These narratives often ignore the real people whose lives are directly affected: the parents who cannot have children without it and the women who voluntarily choose to help them. Banning surrogacy would not protect families, but would actually eliminate them. It would take away the possibility of parenthood from countless people and silence women who exercise their autonomy by becoming surrogates.
What we see is a divided global landscape. In countries like the United States, Canada, and parts of Europe, surrogacy is embraced with clear regulations that protect everyone involved. Families are protected, surrogates are respected, and children are born in loving and stable environments. But in other regions, bans or rigid restrictions force intended parents into hiding or exile, leaving them vulnerable and without adequate protection. A ban doesn’t stop surrogacy; it only makes it more clandestine, often making the process less safe for both surrogates and parents.
We believe in a better way. Surrogacy should be responsibly regulated, never prohibited. With ethical guidelines, medical expertise, and emotional support, surrogacy can be a safe, respectful, and transformative process for everyone involved.
Every time we see a baby in the arms of parents who once believed their dream was impossible, we are reminded of the importance of surrogacy. These are not abstract discussions; these are real lives, real families, and real futures.
We speak today on behalf of the parents we help and in honor of the incredible women who make this process possible. To put it plainly: surrogacy is love, surrogacy is hope, surrogacy is family. And Colombia shines as a place where that dream becomes a reality.
